PINHOLE CAMERA or Camera Obscura. This home-made 'pinhole' camera is a box with a fine pinhole in one end and photographic paper in the other.

The camera is made of cardboard (black on the inside) and held together with black tape. At the front a simple flap serves as the shutter - there is no lens.

To use the camera a piece of photographic paper is placed inside the box in safe light conditions. The box is sealed and placed on a flat surface pointing towards the subject. The flap is lifted for one or two minutes and 'hey presto'.

No worries about people walking in front of the lens, they are not seen by the camera.

Once processed a paper negative is produced. From this negative a positive can be made by contact printing giving a mirror image of the negative.
