Processing

Having first processed the film negative, conventional printing techniques were used to produce a 12"x16" black and white image on matt paper. To allow the paper to receive colour dyes, the image was printed much lighter than I would usually print black and white photographs.

Upto fifteen layers of base colour was applied to the whole paper with cotton wool. Once the paper had dried the meticulous application of subsequent colours were carefully hand-painted with a fine brush. Only one error would render the whole image to the waste bin – and did on many occasions!
