| Burnthouses lies on the edge of Cockfield Fell
in the Gaunless Valley. There is evidence of coal extraction on
the fell going back several centuries. From 1840 until the mid
1960's the mining industry dominated the local economy and this
building is a reminder of those industrious days. |
